Known as one of the best adventure mountain bike rides in The North Island, the 42nd Traverse is a 46 km multi use track through Tongariro Forest Conservation Area. The Grade 3 Trail will take riders 3-7 hours with a number of sections to test your fitness and skill level. It is best ridden from the Tongariro end, you will encounter long climbs and thrilling downhills with one river crossing.

Mountains to the Sea Cycleway

Ohakune Mountain Road, Ohakune Old Coach Road, Ruatiti and Middle Roads, Maungapurua Track, Whanganui River Road, Upokongaro to the Tasman Sea. Beginning on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu and ending in the city of Whanganui.

The trail includes many separate sections and will take 3-5 days. The Grade 2-4 trails are a combination of local trails, public roads and a jet-boat ride. The Maungapurua Track is a grade 4 and can be very tricky with big drop-offs. Some of this section is better walked. A lot of work is going in to upgrading and adding sections to this trail.

The Timber Trail

This is very popular family 85 km ride from Pureora to Ongarue through spectacular ancient Native Forest. Expect to be surprised by the 8 large suspension bridges, the largest being  141 meters over the Maramataha River.
